Committed to Representation

Being accused of a crime can quickly turn your life upside down.  It can have negative effects on your character and reputation.  The threat of criminal conviction can also affect your life, your family, and even your ability to perform at work.

If you’ve been charged with a crime in Maryland or Washington, D.C., it may be time to contact an attorney to discuss your rights and strategies which may be employed in your defense.  A criminal conviction and the related consequences can be serious if you don't take action.  That's why it's vitally important that you understand your rights during this serious time.

At JD James & Associates PC, have cultivated experience and an impeccable track record of client satisfaction in domestic violence, drug possession, distribution, fraudulent prescriptions, restraining orders, violent crimes, and white collar crimes such as, identity theft, mail fraud, tax evasion, and wire fraud matters.

We Will Fight For You

We believe everyone has the right to justice and the representation necessary to achieve that.  We make no negative assumptions of your character or guilt.  With years of experience, it is our continued legal belief that justice can be upheld in favor of defendants and our professional legal team has the knowledge, skills, and track record in criminal defense to help you during these trying times.

Driving Under the Influence

Drinking and driving is a criminal misdemeanor offense in both Maryland and Washington, D.C.  If you are caught drinking and driving, or driving under the influence of drugs, you are potentially subject to the imposition of fines, arrest, loss of driving privileges and/or jail time.

If you have been arrested for DUI or OWI (Operating While Impaired), please contact us immediately.  Time is of the essence as your right to drive in the jurisdiction of your arrest, or in all jurisdictions, may be revoked for a period of time if you do not request and fare successfully in a hearing with the MVA or DMV.

Drug Offenses

Drug convictions are legislatively viewed to be among the most severe crimes and therefore carry some of the harshest penalties.  In instances where a defendant does not receive jail time for a conviction, they may still lose credentials such as security clearance or medical licenses necessary for their employment.

This is especially true in Maryland, and the Washington, D.C. areas, where there are particularly stringent penalties, even for first-time offenders.

It is wise to retain an attorney immediately upon arrest, or subpoena, other official summons, or upon becoming aware that you may be the subject of an investigation.  An experienced attorney may, depending on the facts of your case, be able to help you avoid charges, secure a dismissal of your case, negotiate a plea, or conduct a trial.

Gun Offenses

In Maryland and Washington, D.C., firearms must be properly licensed, and one may not carry a concealed weapon without a permit.  Violations of these and other gun laws are prosecuted heavily.  Further to this, carrying a firearm while committing a separate crime will enhance the penalties of that crime.  A conviction can result in probation, jail time, and other restrictions, including the loss of your right to possess a firearm.

If you are facing firearm or other weapon charges, contact us today to learn more about your case and how our firm can help.
